Poms

Diane Keaton plays a woman with a terminal diagnosis who moves to a retirement community and starts a cheerleading squad. Light and predictable but genuinely warm — a celebration of vitality, friendship, and refusing to go quietly.

Why it’s here: Some see a film about retirees forming a cheer squad as leaning on age-as-punchline. We read it the other way — older women claiming visibility, play, and defiance on their own terms, where choosing joy in the face of a terminal diagnosis is the very opposite of a joke.
