Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders) and her best friend Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) are two chaotic, fashion-obsessed, relentlessly self-destructive women in their 40s–60s who refuse — loudly and magnificently — to behave their age. Both women are fully the protagonists of one of the BBC’s most beloved comedies: a satire of consumerism, mother–daughter friction, and the spectacle of ageing disgracefully. Five series and specials, 1992–2012, plus a feature film in 2016.
